Tes TOEFL® iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language) merupakan tes untuk mengukur kemampuan seseorang dalam menggunakan dan memahami bahasa inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar dalam proses pendidikan di tingkat perguruan tinggi di luar negeri. Di Indonesia, TOEFL® iBT (internet Based Test) telah menggantikan TOEFL® PBT (Paper Based Test) dan TOEFL® CBT (Computer Based Test) sejak tahun 2005. Perubahan format TOEFL® menjadi internet based juga menyebabkan perubahan skor TOEFL® menjadi 0 – 120.
TOEFL® diciptakan oleh ETS (Educational Testing Service) di Princeton, New Jersey, Amerika Serikat pada tahun 1964. Tujuan penciptaan TOEFL® adalah untuk menyaring mahasiswa yang mendaftar di perguruan tinggi yang menggunakan bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantarnya. Hingga saat ini TOEFL® telah mengalami 3 kali pergantian format.
